Susan Sachs, a reporter with more than 36 years of experience covering international affairs and migration issues, is a professor of journalism at Sciences Po (Institute for Political Studies) in Paris, France. A graduate of the University of Michigan (1973), Susan Sachs contributes regularly to The Globe and Mail, the Christian Science Monitor, the Straits Times, and other publications. She is a frequent guest speaker at conferences on press freedom, media, and immigration. Over the course of her career, Susan Sachs has served as bureau chief and foreign correspondent in Cairo, Baghdad, and Istanbul for The New York Times. She was also the Newsday bureau chief in the Middle East and the Newsday bureau chief in Moscow. Susan Sachs has reported on the Palestinian-Israeli conflict, the Iraq war, the 1990-91 Gulf war and the Romanian Revolution in addition to covering the former Soviet Union, European politics and Islam in the Middle East and the United States. Prior to being a foreign correspondent, Susan Sachs was an investigative reporter at The Miami Herald. Susan Sachs was awarded the Knight-Bagehot Fellowship in business journalism and the American Political Science Association Congressional Fellowship. Her reporting has been honored by, among others, the Overseas Press Club and Investigative Reporters and Editors. She is fluent in English and French, and has a working knowledge of Russian and Arabic.
